Growth in fellowship

We’ve been working towards promoting fellowship more in our church. Our major focus is the gospel, and out of the gospel flow our three points of impact: growth, fellowship, and city (i.e. love your city). The fellowship aspect was not clicking at all until about the last month and a half. Since then we’ve seen some great growth in this area. We’ve had several activities that have helped, and Scott preached he three messages on the vision of our church. I think people are starting to realize that a church is more than something you do once a week or twice a week.

Tonight we had a time of singing and fun at our home group meeting. It’s great to see a group of people enjoying each other as brothers and sisters in Christ.

Tomorrow night we are going to have a time of fellowship with the men. We’ve been encouraged to see about 4-5 men who are starting to show more commitment and more interest in growing and serving. I’ve really seen how God is the one who gives the growth in this area because we can plan to our heart’s content but that doesn’t make anything happen without the Holy Spirit’s work in people.

One area that I’ve grown in because of my coworkers Alfredo and Scott is the area of exhortation. I enjoy working together with them because we sharpen each other in this important area of pastoral ministry. How many times do we just need to visit a brother and encourage him to become more committed to Christ’s work? Surely more than we do, but I rejoice to see how God has used our exhortation in a few people’s lives.
